Fond Memories
Free Premiums??
I just visited your site and was thrilled to bring
back some of my fondest memories growing up in the sixties. We used to go
from Long Island with my Cousins, almost every Summer and I even went a
couple of times during my lucrative career as a Newsday Newspaper Boy.
My first question is, I seem to recall the park
offering free premiums that you received at the end of the night from your
tickets. They included things like Peter Pan peanut butter and Hostess
cupcakes. Did I dream this one?
Secondly... I recall my Parents getting us to sit at
the Bandstand (which we couldn't tolerate since there where rides to go
on)... and a three piece rock band playing which was probably the
beginning of hard 60's rock. I remember the organist rocking the organ and
the other members proceeding to beat on their instruments... alla the Who.
That was the last time my Parents ever sat at the musical venues. Do you
know of some of the acts that appeared there?
Thanks a bunch and long may this web site flourish.
Sincerely,
Ted Brass
Ed. Note: Yes, Ted. The free
premiums were given away regularly to the first 1000 patrons to buy
discount tickets. The park offered full size samples of Prell Shampoo,
Hostess products, Peter Pan, and much more. As for the musical acts, the
list of groups that performed at Palisades would read like a Who's Who
of pop music from the era. Just about anybody who was anybody played on
the stage at Palisades.
