Tunes of Palisades

Hi Vince,

It was a rare occasion, to see my Dad get home from work while it was still light outside, and I can remember him arriving at home one particular afternoon, and exclaiming to my older twin sisters and myself, "aren't you ready yet? We're going to Palisades Park!"

Well I thought he and my mother would have to put me in a straight jacket! I distinctly recall my sisters convincing me to get on the Wild Mouse Coaster with them. Can you imagine being a little shaver like myself, tucked between two screaming teenage girls on a thrill ride like that? It's a wonder I still have my hearing !

I can remember my mother and I stopping by the french fries stand, and us eating the salty fries with the malt vinegar sprinkled on top. I still get strange looks, when I request vinegar for my fries today !

I remember my last visit to the park was with my next door buddy, and his mother. We went by way of Public Service bus from Newark, and I can fondly remember two popular records of the time playing in the park's background. Those songs were: "Rainy Days and Mondays" (The Carpenters), and "Treat Her Like a Lady" (Cornelius Bros. and Sister Rose).

God Bless You Vince, and God Bless America...

Yours Truly,
Darryl T. Williams
