The Gas Station Near the Park...

Vince,

When I was 7 years old, my Father owned  "Nobile's Texaco" gasoline station at 1014 Palisade avenue, right next door to the Park!  We were there from 1968 till 1971. Many  weekends, we would have Park patrons leave their cars in our parking lot. My Father knew the ride operators and I would have free tickets to any ride I was "tall enough" to go on. I have vivid memories of the "Love Bug", "Himalaya", "House of Mirrors", "Hootananny" to name a few. I also won a pair of Finches (birds) with my last quarter..on the way out of the Park!  Sadly, we witnessed the Parks' closing and demolition to make room for the Winston Towers. A one bedroom apartment cost $25,000!

I hope you can post these great memories that I have, so your readers will once again relive the sights and sounds of this great piece of Americana. If anyone remembers our gas station or has pictures, I would love to hear from you. Keep up the great work Vince.

Sincerely,
Robert Nobile
