  Fond Memories

Sly and the Family Stone

As a kid that grew up in Newark, my parents would take my brother and I to Palisades Park every summer.

One summer around 1967-69, (I was only 7-9 years old) we saw Sly and the Family stone perform. This stuck with me because this was the first time I saw a famous group perform and secondly during a drum solo, the drumstick broke and flew into the crowed and landed at my feet.

Although I no longer have that broke drum stick, it helped burn a fond memory of PP and help make Sly & FS to this day one of my all time favorite groups.

Ironically just last weekend for the first time since PP, I saw the group perform (Minus Sly) at another outdoor venue in Milwaukee Summerfest. The memories of PP flushed back as if I was right there, not almost 40 years ago.

Thank you for having this site. PP was my childhood and in fact every time I hear a S&FS song I thing of PP.
