Fond Memories
...Nancy from Strongville, Ohio
Hi Vin,
My name is Nancy and I am writing to you from Strongsville
Ohio. My family on my mother’s side is from Edgewater NJ. My Nana worked for
the borough hall for some fifty years and my Papa was a mail carrier. Their
house (as well as mine and some of my cousins) was on Undercliff Ave. We
could sit in my grandparent’s front yard and watch the lighted Palisades
Park sign. I remember in my cousin’s house we would fall asleep watching the
lights and hearing the park noises through her window. I was born in 1960.
My grandparents are deceased and the house on Undercliff Ave has been sold.
However, my extended family cousin’s second cousins etc…still go the
ballpark every year for the Casey Day Family picnic and most still live in
the area.
I’m writing to you in hopes of finding a picture of the
lighted sign that was facing NYC. I mean the scrolling billboard. I hope I’m
explaining this right. Anyway, I used to walk to the park all the time as a
child. My fondest memories are the huge lollipops the rubber punching
balloons and the caterpillar ride that went around in circles with the
canvas top opening and closing. My brother won the diaper derby at the park
and my mother and all of her brothers swam in the saltwater pool all the
time. I was so sad when I first saw the high rise apartments there and not
the park. The Palisades Amusement Park was a huge part of my life’s fondest
memories.
Thanks Sincerely
Nancy
Editor's Note: I'm
sorry, Nancy. I found several photos of the P.A.L.I.S.A.D.E.S
A.M.U.S.E.M.E.N.T P.A.R.K sign that was on the cliffs but I could
find no photo of the scrolling sign.
