  Fond Memories

Irving Rosenthal and The Dollar Bill

When I was about 12 years old we use to go to Palisades Park with Joe O,Brien a captain of the Alexander Hamilton, a ship that went up and down the Hudson River. Joe would bring one of his family and myself for a Saturday at the park.

One early morning visit a short man came up to us and asked us if we were having fun. Joe knew who this was and said to us, "this is Mr. Rosenthal." We had no idea or really cared but seeing a dollar bill in his hand caught are attention. He wanted us to sing a song or jingle but all we wanted was the dollar. With one quick swipe I grabbed the dollar to only get half of it. Mr. Rosenthal said something about learning a lesson and walked away. Not until I found your web site did I realize the short man was the owner of the park and pictures of him and the park brought back all of the good memories of Palisades.

Living in Rockland County I still take a ride down 9W to the memorial and then take a side trip to Callahans for a hot dog and Coke. I can still here the sounds and the smells like it was yesterday.

Thanks for the memories!
Sincerely, Bill Latka
