Remembering the Fun House

Palisades Park was THE BEST. We drove in from Passaic and knew we had arrived when we heard the ticking of the Cyclone and all the screams. The Fun House was my sister’s favorite ride. I remember walking on moving discs shaped like man hole covers. You had to be careful especially if you wore a dress because air shot out from beneath and would blow your dress up. I also recall a slanted room you walked through holding onto rails. Next, we sat on a seat that plopped us down onto a conveyer belt into a room with the moving barrel you had to walk through. I never keep my balance & always fell while my sister walked directly through. And who could forget the cackle of someone laughing outside the Fun House. Can anyone recall any other details of the Fun House?

We also enjoyed the Caterpillar ride. All it did was run in circles but we thought it was so cool when the hood came up and covered us. I also recall making a record with my mother & sister in one of the arcades, in the late 50s singing “I Love You a Bushel & a Peck” and my sister singing “Davie Crocket, King of the Wild Frontier.”

Thanks for a great site & wonderful memories.
