My Father Won a Parakeet

I was born in 61 and so the park closed when I was 10, but I do remember my dad taking the family there each summer from Queens NY. Each of us 3 kids got to take a friend along. We looked forward to it each summer. I remember my father won a parakeet at one of those "games of chance." It was a beautiful blue parakeet and we named it "Twiggy" after the skinny English model. She lasted about 3 months until she flew out my bedroom window while my mother was hanging out the wash to dry.
