The author of the book "The Great Paterson Fire of 1902" wanted a detailed map of the turn-of-the-century city to illustrate the path of the fire. He also wanted to highlight several key locations that were mentioned in the book. The use of color and a legend allowed a visual representation of the building materials that were used throughout the city. The map was design as a two-page truck and was printed in full color.
